The underlying structure of the C1 means you and your passengers are well protected:
- The front and rear ends have built-in crumple zones
- The underbody and windscreen pillars will absorb and dissipate energy towards the rear of the car
- The reinforcing beams in the doors protect against side impact.

The C1 puts your safety first, with a driver's and front passenger's airbag on all models. Front lateral airbags are also standard on VTR+ models.

The C1 has a particularly comprehensive braking system, with two vented discs at the front:
- The Anti-Blocking System (ABS) adjusts braking pressure electronically to stop the wheels locking
- Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) distributes braking power evenly to all wheels
- Cornering Stability Control (CSC) keeps the car on course if you brake while cornering .

ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) helps you stay in control in even the trickiest situations. It acts on brakeforce distribution and engine speed to keep the car stable if it loses grip when cornering.
