LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM
Available as an option on C4 and new C5, the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) is a unique proposition for cars in these classes and typifies Citroën’s position at the forefront of driver-assisting technology.
Designed to help combat the effects of driver fatigue or lack of concentration, the system is designed to operate at speeds of over 50 mph. Six pairs of infra-red sensors located at the front of the car are directed at the tarmac, and these detect any unintentional crossing of a solid or dotted line. Without disturbing the passenger, the driver is alerted to any such infringement by vibrating devices in the seat. So, if the car has veered to the left, then the left-hand side of the seat vibrates and vice versa, alerting the driver to take the necessary corrective action.
