CHARGING MADE SIMPLE
How do you charge your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle? 5 key components are involved in charging an electric vehicle: the power grid, the charging point, the charging cable, your vehicle's charging port and its battery. To find out all about daily charging, discover the charging solutions available.
We recommend that electric vehicle customers install a chargepoint at their home as their daily charging solution.

Increasingly electricity suppliers are offering cheaper night time tariffs, enabling you to schedule charging (using the MyCitroën app) to take place when power is cheapest.
There are a large number of standard and rapid chargepoints across the country, operated on many different networks. Usually you have to register with these networks, or download an app to use their chargepoints – but an increasing number are now being installed with payment card facilities built in.

Many are completely free to use. Others you pay for, either by the time you spend plugged in, or for the amount of energy you use.
STANDARD MODE 2 CABLE

This cable is available to purchase and can provide you with up to 2.3 kW of power. It is used with a standard domestic power socket.

SINGLE-PHASE MODE 3 CABLE

Supplied as standard with your vehicle, this cable can provide you with up to 7.4 kW of power. It is optimised for use with your 7.4 kW WallBox or at a public charging point.

THREE-PHASE MODE 3 CABLE

This cable is supplied as standard if the optional 11kW on-board charger is chosen. This cable is optimised for use with three phase public chargers.

HOW TO OPTIMISE YOUR RANGE

How can you optimise your range and get the most out of your battery's charge capacity? To find out everything you need to know, follow our advice!

Several factors can impact your vehicle's range. These include your driving speed and style, the load carried, the use of heating and air conditioning and the terrain. Follow our advice to optimise your range.

Don't just drive, eco-drive

By driving smoothly, you avoid excessive energy consumption. Brake and decelerate slowly and in advance.

On motorways, adhere to the speed limit, as high speeds rapidly reduce the range of your car.

Make use of engine braking instead of the brake pedal as soon as you can. This will allow your electric or hybrid vehicle to charge its battery during braking and deceleration.

Pre-condition cabin temperature

Take advantage of charging sessions to pre-set the car's temperature remotely without affecting its charge level. This way you limit the energy consumption of the air conditioning or heating systems when you are driving.

Check your tyres

In addition to ensuring your safety, it is essential to make sure that your vehicle's tyres are in good condition and properly inflated to optimise its energy consumption.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - ELECTRIC VEHICLES

From range to charging and the installation of an electric charge point in your home, Citroën provides all the answers to common questions about electricity.

RANGE

HOW CAN I CHECK THE RANGE OF MY ELECTRIC CAR?

Similar to an internal combustion-engine vehicle, the consumption information for an electric vehicle is located next to the speedometer. Range is calculated in real time, and takes into account your driving style and other factors.

However, there are a few things to note: for a plug-in hybrid vehicle, a blue light on the rear-view mirror informs you when you are in 100% electric mode. In addition, your display shows the electric range on one side, and your fuel range on the other. To check your vehicle's charge status remotely, the My Citroën application is an essential tool.

WHAT IS THE RANGE OF MY ELECTRIC VEHICLE?

The range of your electric vehicle depends on your driving and the load you're carrying, the gradient of the road and your use of air conditioning or heating.  In terms of figures, the C5 Aircross Plug-in SUV Hybrid has a 100% electric range of 31 miles under the WLTP standard. For vehicles in the 100% electric range such as New ë-C4 or ë-Dispatch, the range goes up to 205 miles in WLTP mode.

WHAT ARE THE SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE CITROËN HYBRID?

For Citroën, the plug-in hybrid is the union of electric and combustion. Enjoy the comfort and performance of the 100% electric mode, without giving up your desire for adventure. Depending on the distance, the internal combustion engine automatically takes over.

CHARGING

WHERE AND HOW CAN I CHARGE MY ELECTRIC CAR?

Rest assured, there are many charging options! Whether at home, in the office or on the road, you will never be caught short.  At home, you can get a charging point installed, taking advantage of a government grant to reduce the cost.  There's also funding available to companies, so your employer may choose to install charging points at your workplace.

During a journey, public charging can be found in many locations to keep you on the move.  www.zap-map.com is the best place to research public charging across the UK.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO CHARGE MY CAR?

The charging time depends on the type of charging point you use. There are several types of charge points, both domestic and public, with several power levels. Find all the information you need on the dedicated vehicle pages, but also in the downloadable technical specifications.

HOW CAN I INSTALL A SOCKET OR A WALLBOX IN A MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENCE?

If you live in shared residence without a dedicated driveway which you own, it can be tricky to get a charging point installed.  Citroën recommends that you speak to our charging partner Octopus Energy, who can offer guidance in this area.

CAN I PROGRAM THE CHARGING OF MY CAR?

The answer is yes! You can program deferred charging and set the temperature of your passenger compartment. Manage it from your smartphone through the MyCitroën app and e-Remote Control service.

SERVICES

ARE THERE INSURANCE POLICIES SUITABLE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES?

Yes, most insurers offer policies for electric vehicles.

HOW CAN I CREATE A MY CITROËN ACCOUNT?

The My Citroën app is available on Android and iOS. To register, you'll need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to hand, which can be found on your vehicle windscreen or your registration document.  Pair your vehicle with the app to take advantage of all the features including Citroën connected services.

COSTS

HOW MUCH DOES AN ELECTRICAL CHARGE COST?

This is fully dependent on where you charge and the cost of your electricity. Some public chargepoints are completely free, whereas others have variable charges. You can also install a chargepoint at home and pay for the electricity you use to charge.

Electricity is priced by kWh (kilowatt per hour) - so for a full battery charge you multiply the price per kWh by the capacity of the battery (in the same way today you would multiply the price per gallon, by the fuel tank capacity).

Many energy companies are now offering ‘electric vehicle tariffs’ where charging at certain times is cheaper. Citroën make this easy for you to manage, from either the vehicle or through downloading the MyCitroën app, which allows you to programme your vehicle to start charging at a time convenient to you.
