Here are some handy tips & hints to ensure when you are able to get back on the road again, you can do so worry free:

Tyres – Check condition, pressure, tread depth. The recommended pressure can be found on the sticker applied to the car B Post or Door – refer to the handbook for location. The pressure and condition will reduce naturally even if the vehicle is not being used. The law requires car tyres to have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm in a continuous band around the central three quarters of the tyre. A quick and easy way to see if your tyre tread exceeds the minimum legal tread depth is to take the 20p test. Simply place a 20p coin into the main tread grooves of your tyre. If the outer band of the 20p coin is obscured when it is inserted, then your tread is above the legal limit.

Oil – Check level and top up if required – see vehicle handbook for further details.

Fuel – Moisture can get into the fuel tank. To help stop that, keep you fuel topped up.

Screen wash – top up your washer supply with Screen wash – the use of water alone can become stagnant over time.

Battery – a short 20 minute essential drive is enough to maintain a good charge in your battery.

Air Conditioning – can produce bacterial growth and unpleasant smells inside the car.

Wiper blades – Check for cracking and splitting – you can order replacements via your local retailer.

Check exterior lights – its handy to keep some spare bulbs just in case you need to replace any.

Exterior paintwork - Clean the exterior of your car to remove dirt or marks which can cause damage to the vehicle paint work.  Using a wax after cleaning can help limit further damage.

Vehicle Interior – at these time, greater importance is given to the cleaning the interior of your vehicle.

Additional items for diesel vehicle drivers to consider:

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) – if the DPF warning light illuminates, try driving a slightly longer route home, as limited use and travelling short distances can cause the system to clog.
