Important Information About the Takata Airbag Recall

Stellantis UK Announces Stop-Drive for the following vehicles, owners of such vehicles should immediately cease using their vehicle when safe to do so.

Vehicles included in this stop-drive action in the UK, were already part of an ongoing comprehensive recall campaign that started over one year ago, first in Southern Europe and then expanded northwards. Recall decisions, especially stop-drive actions, are based on multiple factors, including airbag specifications, vehicle age and usage, climate conditions, and notifications from regulatory authorities.

Whilst there have been no reported instances in the UK, Stellantis has decided to deploy a stop-drive order for all impacted vehicles across Europe including the UK. This decision underscores the Company’s unwavering commitment to customer safety.

All affected customers will be notified by letter.  Customers can also check if their vehicle is affected and what actions are advised by using the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) check tool below.  If impacted, they should register their vehicle to enable the processing of their repair as soon as possible.

If you are unable to register online, owners can contact our Recall Helpline on 0800 917 9285.

It is of paramount importance that owners of vehicles who may have changed either their address or contact details keep their information updated with the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority) so that they can be reached in a timely and efficient manner.

Stellantis UK is mobilising its full network of suppliers, retailers and manufacturing plant to support this action and ensure the fastest, safest and most convenient solution for each customer. If you have any specific Mobility needs or requirements, please identify these when you speak to your retailer when making your booking, we have made a number of mobility solutions available to support customers impacted by this Stop Drive.

Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue.

Affected Models

Stellantis is recalling all affected vehicles with a staggered approach, to ensure safety first and service all customers in the fastest and most efficient way. It means that we are recalling the affected cars step by step, with prioritisation for the oldest vehicles because of the behaviour of the chemical components overtime in the Takata airbags.

With VIN check below you can easily find out if your car is affected and if it has been recalled already or will be soon. Please make sure to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) at hand. You can find this information in the vehicle registration documents or your insurance documents - it is a 17-digit alphanumeric code assigned to every vehicle.

Check your vehicle’s VIN to see if it has a recalled Takata airbag.

What should you do next?
We are committed to your safety and working with Retailers and technicians to provide safe, repairs as quickly as possible. It does not matter if you bought your Stellantis car new or used, here are the steps you can take:
FAQs
1. Why was my airbag recalled?
The recalled Takata airbag inflators can degrade over time and may rupture in a crash, shooting sharp metal fragments that can cause serious injury or death.
2. How to know if I have a Takata airbag, and where can I find my VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)?
You can find your VIN on your registration documents, insurance card, or in these car locations: front of engine block under hood; driver’s side interior dash; front end of frame (older cars); driver’s side door jam (inside).
3. What caused the problem?
The chemicals in these recalled airbags can deteriorate over time, especially in hot and humid weather. This can cause the airbags to explode, even in minor crashes, leading to serious injury or even death.
4. What is the remedy for this recall?

All Takata airbag recall repairs are fast, free, and easy.

A certified technician will remove the recalled airbag cannister and replace it with a new one. Citroën will cover the cost of parts and labour when this is done at an authorised Retailer or through one of the other repair services we offer.

5. What does it mean if I have a Stop Drive notice?
If your vehicle is under a Stop Drive Measure, stop driving immediately. Your vehicle is at a greater risk of having an airbag that could rupture in a crash. We will arrange your repair as quickly as possible, and work with you to ensure alternate transportation. In the meantime, please make sure your vehicle is not in use, and that everyone with access to the vehicle is notified.
6. Who can I contact if I have questions?
You can call our dedicated hotline at 0800 917 9285 for support.
7. Do I need to be the owner of the vehicle to bring it in for a free repair?

Anyone can bring a vehicle in for a recall repair without question. No title, proof of ownership, or documentation is required.

A Retailer may ask for your contact information to notify you of any recalls that could be issued for your vehicle in the future. You don’t need to provide any information you aren’t comfortable sharing, but it would allow the Retailer to keep you informed so you can maintain the safety of your vehicle.

8. Can I go to a local mechanic to get my airbag replaced?
You need to get your repair completed by an authorised Retailer or a repair technician that they provide, in order to get the free parts and labour.
9. Can I get a free repair even if my vehicle is no longer under warranty?
Yes, Takata recall repairs are free regardless of warranty status. In fact, it is mostly older models of Citroen that are affected by this recall.
